As a follow up to our Historical Black and White Colorization post, we have a step-by-step colorization tutorial from Mads Madsen (who’s colorization of the ‘Unemployed Lumber Worker’ we featured). Madsen is a 19-year-old colorization expert and regular contributor to Colorized History on reddit. It’s quite an impressive process, even for those who are proficient in Photoshop, and will give you an even greater appreciation for the work that people like Madsen do. This quick video is a great jumping off point, and you can follow up with more detailed instructions here.
We think this process is really fascinating and hope to put together some of our own colorizations, as time allows, that we’ll be sure to post here on the blog. If you give it a try, let us know what your process was like and be sure to share your finished product- we’d love to see it!
